We help growing businesses work better.

When your business grows, the way you work doesn’t always keep up.

Processes evolve. Spreadsheets multiply. Knowledge lives in people’s heads. The owner becomes the answer to too many questions. And systems that once worked, start creating more work, than they save.

Right Hand Band helps you make sense of it.

We get under the hood of your business to understand how things really work — your processes, people, systems and information — then identify what needs to change and help you make it happen.

Less complexity. Clearer ways of working.

A business that’s better set up to grow.

Does this sound familiar?

Your business has grown organically and some of the ways you work have grown organically with it.

You might be finding that:

  • Too much knowledge lives in people’s heads

  • Spreadsheets have multiplied and information lives in too many places

  • Different people have different ways of doing the same thing

  • It’s not always clear who owns what

  • Your team still comes back to you for too many decisions

  • You have systems, but they don’t necessarily work together

  • Manual administration and double handling are creeping in

  • You know things could work better, but you’re not sure where to start

Or perhaps you’re about to grow and want to put the right foundations in place before things get complicated.

That’s where we come in.

We understand first. Then we improve.

We don’t start with a piece of software or arrive with a predetermined solution. We start by understanding your business.

UNDERSTAND

We work with you and your team to understand how the business really operates, and not just how everyone thinks it operates. We map processes, uncover dependencies, capture the knowledge sitting in people’s heads and look at how your roles, systems and information fit together.

IMPROVE

Once we can see the whole picture, we identify what’s getting in the way and where the biggest opportunities lie. We help simplify processes, clarify responsibilities, reduce duplication and determine what should change… and in what order.

IMPLEMENT

A recommendation is only useful if something actually happens with it. We can stay alongside you to turn the improvement plan into action, by implementing new workflows, systems and ways of working and managing the projects needed to get there.

EMBED

Sometimes the work doesn’t end with a single project. We can continue to drive improvement initiatives, keep priorities moving and help make sure the changes become part of how the business actually operates ongoing.

What does that look like in practice?

Depending on what we uncover, the work might involve:

Process mapping and improvement
Getting what’s in people’s heads out into the open, understanding how work flows through the business and identifying opportunities to make it better.

Business playbooks
Creating a practical source of truth for how your business works, including its key processes, responsibilities and ways of working.

Roles and accountability
Making it clearer who owns what, where responsibilities overlap and where the business is too dependent on particular people.

Systems and information
Understanding what information your business actually needs and how your systems should support it, before jumping into software selection.

Implementation and continuous improvement
Turning identified opportunities into completed projects and keeping improvement work moving.

From complexity to clarity

Queensland Institute had reached a point where its business had grown beyond some of the systems and processes originally put in place.

Valuable information existed across spreadsheets and different tools, but the team needed to step back and understand what the business actually required before making decisions about future systems and roles within the business.

We worked with the team to map its core processes, document how the business operated, identify improvement opportunities and build a clearer picture of its future requirements.

The result wasn't simply a set of process maps.

It created a practical foundation the team is now using internally and a prioritised roadmap for the next stage of business improvement.

“The biggest impact has been greater clarity and confidence about how we move forward… Rather than jumping straight to a solution, Katie took the time to understand how the business operates, what information we need to manage, and where the real pain points and opportunities are.”

— Fiona, The Queensland Institute.

The Right Hand Band approach

We’re not interested in handing over a report full of recommendations and disappearing.

And we don’t believe the answer to every business problem is another piece of software.

We work alongside you.

Katie typically leads the initial discovery and business improvement work: asking the questions, untangling the complexity and helping determine what needs to change.

Andres brings a strong implementation and continuous improvement focus, helping turn identified opportunities into practical changes that stick.

Together, that means we can help you understand what needs to change and then actually change it.

Not sure where to start?

Good.

You don’t need to arrive knowing whether you need process mapping, a new system, clearer roles or something else entirely. Tell us what’s happening in your business, what’s getting in the way and where you’re trying to get to.

We’ll start there.

  • You have the ability to navigate the nuances of office relationships and personal agendas to provide a clear picture of how a business operates with its processes. The snapshot in time from the process maps is an tool to build a foundation of efficiencies and change.
